I was put on Revia (naltrexone) when I went into rehab. After a week of being on it I was convinced it was a placebo. It really didn't do much of anything to help me. I would suggest Suboxone sublingual tablets. These worked great for me. These are also for opiate addicts. Revia is used both for opiate and alcohol. Good luck with your treatment.

Naltrexone merely counteracts the effects of opiates. The patient must have been drug free for 7-10 days before the drug is given otherwise violent withdrawal symptoms are instantly precipitated. The idea is that while the drug is being taken if heroin is used it is instantly neutralised. It is not a very successful solution.

If you've more or less come off the gear anyway then it's a good way to safeguard against relapse.... if you slip up just once or something then the naltrexone will sit on the parts of your brain that benefit from the smack and therefore you'll barely know you've had any; the theory is, this'll stop you getting back in the groove.... If you've just conned your way through a methadone programme though and maybe tried subutex a couple of times and used on top, you might want to postpone taking naltrexone for a couple of years....
