6 a day is a lot if you don't need them. Only take them when you are in pain

Ummmm... yeah, it sounds like you do have an addiction. Pain killers are tricky. You could deal with this your whole life. I'm glad you don't feel the effects of not taking them. Stop taking them, cold turkey if you can. What you should do is explore why you are taking them in the first place. Are you stressed? Do you need an escape? Do they help you deal with anxiety? These are the deeper matters. Good luck and don't be afraid to seek help from a doc if you need to.

Well, if you've been taking them over 2 weeks, you don't need to stop cold turkey. you can have horrible side effects from it. i've been addicted to hydros and oxycontin. i've been clean for 5 years. it's a really hard addiction to get over. you probably need to seek help from a psychiatrist, to help you ween off of these items. i hardly ever take pain killers now, due to my tendancy to get addicted. the psychiatrist can help you through this. whatever you do, stopping cold turkey is a bad idea.

You don't say how long you've been taking them or what you are taking, so if you do go cold turkey, be sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. Unless it's oxycontin, 2-6 pills a day is a very doable cold turkey withdrawal. Yep, you're going to feel bad for a while, but if you have a jacuzzi available, that will help with the leg cramps, if not hot baths will help. Drink plenty of water, eat healthy, get some imodium AD for the runs, and even though you won't feel like it, force yourself to exercise or take some brisk walks. Flush the pills you have left, and like others have said, look into getting some help to figure out what void the pills are filling and why.
