My husband is on suboxone to help him detox from pain medication...He's having a hard time going to sleep and now is smoking pot to help him relax since sleep meds are not recommended when you're on this medicine....UGH...he used to smoke pot for years and quit when we got married. Now it's been 10 days and he's smoking pot every night before he goes to bed...I'm just afraid that he's going to get hooked back on POT! Do people who smoke pot have it on their mind, look forward to it??? I'm just getting a little anxious that he'll be switching from one drug to the next for who knows how long....PLease someone help me with words of truth on this...Thank you..

I am a former addict and I try to help others who want to get clean. Your husband should know better. He is only prolonging his problem. Also, he is likely giving in to his desire to get high left over from the pain meds. He also is going to ruin the effects of the drugs he is taking to relieve the opiate dependency. The most important thing a person can do is recognize the dangerous path they are on before they get hurt or hurt others. Your husband needs to get real.

No this is what is called substitution. Your husband needs a drug rehab center and the 12 step program of Narcotics Anonymous. I would also suggest Co-Dependency 12 step group for yourself it will help you understand his recovery better. Best of luck to you, I know it's tough.

I've been on opiates for 4 years for chronic back pain. I decided to detox from them last week and only had withdrawal symptoms for a couple of days. The sleeplesness is the hardest thing to cope with, but that is also a symptom of pot withdrawal, so, tell him to be a man and tackle it head-on, it's only temporary. I quit oxy because it still didn't relieve me of the pain, so I would rather suffer with a clear head. I am already feeling the benefits

I've been sober from many drugs for 3 years and I still feel that they should legalize pot. You never hear about someone going out and killing and robbing a bank because they were under the influence of Pot.. That's because all the pot smokers are at home in front of the T.V with the chips in their lap. If he's only doing it at night to get to sleep then I really wouldn't worry about it. Like i said i think they should make it legal.. And this is coming from someone who has been sober for 3 years. But pot wasn't my worst drug. Good luck
