Question: My best friend has opiate addiction and has a child?

A good friend of mine has an addiction to pain killers and she wants to get sober and recover very bad. She had came to me because I have had a family member go through this before and my family member has been clean for almost a year now god bless- em. My question is, is that she has a child and she is afraid if she goes and gets help that she is going to get in trouble for being a mother and an addict (ie: getting her child taken away). Hey we all make mistakes and I told her she should have nothing to worry about because it should be all confidential and plus she is going to get help with it. Does anyone have any insight or personal experience with this type of issue so I can giver her a little bit more insight? Thank you

She can start by going to Narcotics Anonymous. TODAY. they aren't related to the government, or medical societies. they aren't mandated reporters. You or she can look up a meeting in your area here portaltools.na.org/ portaltools/ MeetingLoc/ I think is she starts NA on her own, if she does have to go to some other type of rehab, even by court order, the court will look upon her starting NA herself favorably.

First off does she have someone who can care for the child while she seeks treatment? That will be the only issue of concern. As long as she can prove the child is safe and cared for she will not get in any trouble.
