I can't seem to get much attention to my questions, so I already asked this question in a different form, but I'm simply rewording it in hopes of getting the best answer and to attract the most answers. Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how many countries around the world provide the access to legal methadone clinics for those addicted to opiates? I know that heroin is not a problem that is limited to the western countries, although it is much worse there. I'm sure that all scandanavian countries as well as most western european countries have them, but what about countries in south america? east asia? the middle east? africa? australia? THANK YOU.

Are needle exchange programs and heroin/methadone clinics morally wrong?
I was just reading an article about the lack of federal funding for needle exchange programs in U.S., and one part caught my attention that many people oppose needle exchange programs on the basis that it is morally wrong.I personally think that is ridiculous to not give out needles to addicts. The only considerations that apply here are the practical ones. People who are already shooting up will shoot up with whatever they get their hands on. If we can give them clean needles, then they will be less likely to transmit diseases through needles. Which means that less diseases will be transfered, period. And even if you don't care about junkies, you have to realize that not all junkies look like junkies and that said junkies can transmit diseases through other means, as well.Similarly, I don't see what's wrong with heroin or methadone clinics. They have been proven to be very successful in many countries, yet we are very opposed to them here in the U.S. We have some methadone clinics, but heroin clinics are like a taboo. However, they've worked very well in other countries, like Switzerland.So, in summary, can anyone here rail against needle exchange programs and heroin or methadone clinics, based on morals alone? my ex wife is in a methadone clinic, isnt she tested for other drugs as well as heroin?... how is she still smoking pot?well im asking because she has my kids for now...and i dont want them around drugs period...she was arrested for possesing pot after she fell asleep at a stop light

If methadone clinics keep you from going in withdrawals...arent your addicted to the methadone?
I mean you have to go everyday...what happens if you stop. You will still have cravings for one or the other...its makes no since to me...explain please.

Before anyone posts that I already asked this question, I know, I want more answers. Before I got a lot of people who said I was making an uneducated judgment about it. So let me clarify I moved to the area I'm in because I wanted to get away from all the crap. The area I live in is not rampant with heroin users. The clinic was put in for the people in the inner city, so why can't the clinic be where they are? I know that the people going to the clinic are " rehabilitating" But I have knowen many heroin users and from my experience, they may be trying to rehabilitate today and not tom arrow. How do you know that they aren't using still, even while going to the clinic? And how do you know that those people aren't into some even more destructive habits? I'm just saying that I don't want all of this right in my yard. I share a parking lot with the clinic now, they just opened last week All you can hear are people cussing and hanging out in the parking lot. It's annoying. And I'm sorry to say, I don't trust these people. That may sound judgmental, but it's not me using the needles. So I guess even if it is judgmental, I don't care. I have 4 children to look out for, not the heroin addicts. I don't care if their feelings are hurt. My family comes first. I just don't feel right letting my kids outside to play right next to where these users are going. And I understand that they are going there for help. But I also understand that not all of them are really on the road to recovery. I have knowen people that use and when they run out they go to the clinics. I have heard of people shooting up just before they go in. I don't need that here. Everyone acts like I'm an awful person because I don't want to give the recovering addicts a chance, but would you take the chance when it's your family? I just wanted to know how everyone else would feel if a methadone clinic moved into your back yard? And is there anything I can do to get it relocated?

How is a methadone clinic legally operated. I know several young adults that go to a methadone clinic, and none of them ever get any better. Nobody else at the clinic ever gets better either. They pay nearly 500 dollars a month to get high legally. They have no set plan to ween you off. They allow you to stay there as long as you want. If you fail multiple drug tests they continue to let you come. This is absolutely insane that this is allowed by the government. I guarantee you the success rate of a methadone clinic is less than 2 %. Sure people are not doing heroin anymore, but they are doing methadone which basically does the same thing. The people I know stay high on their dosage, and come home and try to find more and more. Everyone I know that goes to that place is getting no better. Nobody that they know that goes to that place is getting any better. If you type methadone in yahoo answers, you find a bunch of addicts trying to figure out how to get more, how to sneak it out, if I take this with my methadone will I be ok, how often do they have drug tests at the clinic because I want to get high on something else too. It's crazy that no one has made this an issue. I don't think most of the general population realize this is going on. People try to argue that this is junkies trying to get better, when actually it's junkies trying to get high without having to worry about a jail sentence.
