Question: Help my brother with heroin?
(Posted by: on 2012-01-25 20:09:20)
Hello, My brother still lives with me and my parents. He is 27 and is addicted to heroin. I am 14 and don't know how i can help. He smokes it on tin foil and so we never have any :(. He started smoking it a year ago (more or less) and when i try to ask him to TRY and quit he makes noises and denies it. He is retarded (not a lot but a little slow) but when he smokes it he gets really stupid. He also smokes weed but i don't mind that. I talk to him about it and he says he will never stop and it makes me angry and i really don't want to live like this. He steals all my stuff to sell it (ex. my amp!) and so I always worry about that. any advice? |

You can punch him in the face when he nods out on heroin for one, but your parents are really the ones responsible for giving him a home. He is an addict and needs help (rehab), or he will wind up getting arrested or worse. Talk to your parents, protect your stuff. |

I am a former heroin addict. Truthfully, no matter what people say to you, or what happens, you are not even going to try to quit utilities you really want to. Heroin doesn't always make people steal. Unless he is stealing it for money to buy heroin, I would say the addiction has nothing to do with the stealing, that's a physiological problem he has! Also, you need to watch out because, not only can you smoke heroin, it can be injected, snorted, or swallowed! He can always find a way to get it in his system. Anyway, there are a few things you can do. Talking to him most likely wouldn't do any help. You need to get a lock on your door & keep a key with you at all times & leave a copy with your parents. Any valuables need to be in a safe. When he is high, & you can tell, make sure he can tell you notice. Just ignore him. If you're whole family does this, he will feel he has no where to turn. You're parents maybe should consider checking him into a rehab. He may not change until he is ready, but at least he will have to stay sober there, maybe that will give him a reality check. I wish you the best of luck with this, & I promise you, he CAN recover, it will be hard but he can. I did it. |

Well, The sad thing is that you can't force or put someone into rehab. They have to voluntarily admit themselves. You can try but Rehab you can walk out whenever you want to. Unlike a Mental health facility where you have to stay until you are released by a doctor. Talk to your parents, and try to figure out a way to plan an intervention for him, and try to get him to go on his own. I know this wasn't very helpful, but I hope you can figure something out Good Luck! |
