Do heroin withdrawal symptoms get worse or better shortly before you know you can shoot up?

Question: Do heroin withdrawal symptoms get worse or better shortly before you know you can shoot up?

I know this is a weird question, but im writing a short story in which one of the characters is a heroin addict. Now I usually strive for realism, but im not really looking for a monkey on my back. So if you were on Heroin, and you knew you could finally shoot up again in say 3 or 4 hours, would the jonesing get worse, or would you actually relax a little bit compared to when you didn't know when you were gonna get your next fix? any answers would be much appreciated

methadone pills and syringes Methadone is a synthetic opioid used medically as a painkiller, but also to treat patients on opioids such as heroin.

Definitely WORSE. Even if "shoot - up " time was only 10 minutes away, it would not make an addict feel any more relaxed. That's keepin' it real. And that's the one & only correct answer to your question.
