Heroin Addict: Methadone & Heroin Facts

Question: Why would a heroin addict want to get high after being sober for 200+ days?

I am 18 years old. I started shooting heroin when I was sixteen. I fell off the edge and submitted myself to a terrible lifestyle. After coming to the conclusion I just wasn't happy, I quit using heroin. Detox was worse than death and I luckily made my way through my hell. I have now been sober for around 200 days. I am getting unrelentless urges to start using again even though i know the pain and horror i put myself through. Why now? I thought I left this behind me. Any tips?

The truth is once your an addict you're always and addict. That's with every drug not just heroin. Heroin is especially addictive due to its ability to mimic dopamine. I urge you to seek someone immediately. A friend, family member, and/ or councilor to help you through this. You aren't alone and have done marvelously thus far. Going 200 days without relapsing is impressive. You should be proud of yourself. I would also find something to dig your mind into. Like a book, video game, or movie. It will take your mind off of things.

Call your sponsor NOW. Call a detox center NOW. You've barely begun your path to sobriety and a clean life, and right now is when you are your most vulnerable. 200 days is nothing against the next 19,000 that you'll live cleanly if you get some help, but MAKE THE CALL ! Call someone who can offer REAL help to you NOW. Don't wait until someone gives you the magic answer, ok? PLEASE !! NO ONE who reads this can possibly answer what's inside your head, ok? JUST CALL !!!
